Titan Introduces Zero Hour with a 500M Professional Diver

The Arabian Sea set the stage as Titan unveiled its latest venture aboard a yacht off Goa. Introducing Zero Hour, a performance-driven sub-brand, the debut spotlighted a 500-metre ISO-rated automatic diver, marking an emphatic entry into the performance segment. The inaugural collection spans 12 references, offering water resistance from 100 to 500 metres.

The 500M Professional Diver is built to ISO 6425 standards, which formalise what constitutes a professional dive watch. It is here that Titan places its most complete technical argument: a Grade 2 titanium case measuring 15.5mm in thickness, a 120-click unidirectional bezel secured by an Aqua Lock mechanism, and a dial protected by sapphire with a triple-layer anti-reflective coating. Legibility is treated as a primary function, with hands and markers filled with Super-LumiNova XI, calibrated for low-light conditions underwater.

Powering the watch is the in-house automatic calibre 7AC0, beating at 4Hz, regulated to –10/+30 seconds per day. The movement is positioned as a platform — already in use across other automatic models — with scope for further complications. A helium release valve is integrated for saturation diving, alongside standard ISO testing protocols that include pressure testing beyond rated depth, thermal shock cycles, condensation resistance, and saltwater corrosion checks. Each watch is tested individually.

The case is paired with a Grade 2 titanium bracelet, its links referencing Titan’s logo, alongside an FKM strap option. Both are fitted with a quick-release system. The 500M variant is limited to 500 units per version, priced between INR 75,995 and INR 77,995. Elsewhere in the line-up, the 300m model retains the automatic movement in a steel case, while the 200m and 100m versions introduce quartz options, extending the range with variations in both specification and price.

The launch also marks a collaboration with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, tying the watches to a broader diving ecosystem. GMT India spoke to Rahul Shukla, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Titan Watches, to understand the thinking behind Zero Hour and the technical framework of the new collection.

Why introduce a performance sub-brand at this stage?
Titan’s transition towards mechanical watchmaking has been underway for some time. For decades, the brand was largely associated with quartz and design-led watches, but over the past four to five years, there has been a shift towards premiumisation and mechanical capability. Entering the performance segment is part of that progression. Within watchmaking, professional sports watches—particularly divers—carry a certain technical credibility. Many of the established global brands have built that association over time. This is Titan’s attempt to establish a similar footing by entering the category with a product that meets recognised standards.

Beyond depth rating, what defines the 500M as a professional diver?
ISO 6425 compliance is the baseline. That involves a series of tests: pressure testing at 125% of the rated depth, condensation testing to assess seal integrity, and thermal shock cycles that move the watch between 40°C and 5°C repeatedly. There is also a unidirectional bezel requirement—it must only rotate anticlockwise to prevent misreading dive time. Titan has added its own Aqua Lock system to prevent accidental movement. Visibility is tested at 25cm in low-light conditions, which is where the use of high-grade lume comes in. Each watch undergoes testing individually.

What role did materials play in the development?
Material choice was guided by function. The 500M model uses Grade 2 titanium for the case and bracelet, primarily for its strength, corrosion resistance, and reduced weight compared to steel. The bezel incorporates a sapphire insert for durability, and the dial is protected by sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating to maintain visibility in changing light conditions. The bezel is a 120-click unidirectional system, allowing divers to track time through tactile feedback as well as visual reference. These decisions are less about finish and more about performance under sustained pressure.

Could you elaborate on the in-house calibre 7AC0?
The 7AC0 is an in-house automatic movement with a 40-hour power reserve. It has taken time to develop and is intended as a foundational platform for Titan’s mechanical watches. Beyond this diver, it is already being used in other models, and it allows for further development of complications. In the Indian market, awareness of mechanical watchmaking is still developing, and automatic watches are often worn as visible objects rather than concealed mechanisms. This movement supports both that visibility and future technical expansion.

The collection includes quartz models as well—what informed that decision?
The 500M sits at the top of the range as a professional instrument, both in terms of specification and use. The 300M model retains the automatic movement but uses a steel case and mineral glass. The 200m and 100m models are positioned differently—they are not professional divers’ watches but are intended to make the category more accessible. This allows a broader set of consumers to engage with the category at different price points.

Is this the beginning of a broader category for Titan?
Yes. Zero Hour is conceived as a long-term platform within Titan’s portfolio. Diving is the starting point, but the intention is to extend into other performance categories—field watches, mountaineering, aviation. The segment itself is growing, and Titan has been investing in manufacturing, materials, and mechanical development. This is an early stage of that broader direction.
