Patek Philippes and Other Coveted Watches to Vie for at AstaGuru’s Upcoming ‘Jewellery, Silver, and Timepieces’ Auction

Premium online auction house AstaGuru is all set to present an exquisite collection of jewellery, vintage silver and extraordinary timepieces during its upcoming ‘Jewellery, Silver, and Timepieces’ Auction, scheduled to take place on May 28-29, 2023. 

Since its inception in 2008, the auction house — whose name is a conjugation of ‘Asta’, the Italian word for auction, and ‘Guru’ — has been encouraging and empowering collectors and connoisseurs to discover and acquire precious art and artefacts in India and globally. The upcoming auction aims to stay true to that ethos too. The meticulously curated catalogue of the AstaGuru auction reveals a diverse range of artisanal pieces, highlighting exceptional design and craftsmanship heritage from across the world. Several Art Deco pieces will be on offer too. 

Last week, Geneva witnessed some serious bidding wars at the Christie’s, Phillips and Sotheby’s auctions. At Christie’s (where the total sales amounted to over US$ 45 million), the standout piece was a limited-edition Patek Philippe in stainless steel for Tiffany & Co. Phillips (that raked in over US$ 50 million) witnessed over 15 records being set. Among these were an incredibly-rare yellow gold, gem-set Rolex Ref. 6270 ‘The End Game’,  Patek Philippe Ref. 2499 perpetual calendar chronographs and the first ever JC BIVER prototype.

The upcoming AstaGuru auction will have plenty of Rolexes on offer and a wide variety of Patek Philippe models as well. Will they dominate the Indian auction market as well? Only time will tell! For the moment, here are the timepieces from the catalogue that we are most excited about:

Patek Philippe Nautilus Moon Phase (Ref. 5726)

‍Housed in a 40.5 mm stainless steel case, this now-discontinued Nautilus comes with a classic grey dial that has moon phases and the signature annual calendar complication. The symmetrical dial layout has always been appreciated by collectors; this piece that dates back to 2010 (when the model was first released) is likely to trigger a bidding war.

Patek Philippe World Time (Ref. 5130R)
The silver of the world time dial, featuring 24 cities, complements the 18 ct rose gold case perfectly. Released in 2006, the slim, self-winding 39.5 mm watch is powered by in-house Caliber 240/228; the movement features hand-finished Côtes de Genève and anglage bevelling, solid indicators of the master craftsmanship Patek Philippe is known for.

Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar (Ref. 5140J)
Cased in 18 ct yellow gold with an ivory white dial, this sleek 37 mm wrist watch has the appeal of a classic Patek Philippe. The complications include a perpetual calendar and moonphase; the gold hands and applied index batons match the gold of the case. It sits on a handsome leather strap with a gold deployant buckle.

Patek Philippe Annual Calendar (Ref. 5205G-001)
Instantly recognisable by the three apertures on the dial displaying day, date and month, this 40 mm watch comes cased in 18 ct white gold with a white/grey dial. The moonphase is at 6 o’clock and the bezel is made of 18 ct white gold as well. The leather strap adds to the overall elegance.

Breguet Tradition (Ref. 7057)
The black, openworked, skeletonised dial of this 40 mm watch makes an instant impact. The case is made of 18 ct rose gold and so are the lugs. The power reserve indicator is also displayed on the dial. The leather strap lends itself perfectly to the black-rose-gold combination.

Rolex GMT Master II Root Beer (Ref. 16713)
The ‘Root Beer’ remains one of the most iconic takes on GMT and this piece, which comes with the characteristic brown dial and the brown-and-gold bezel, is likely to be on the radar of Rolex enthusiasts. The two-tone (yellow gold and stainless steel) bracelet sets it apart and adds a touch of extravagance.

Two other exciting timepieces that will go under the hammer at the AstaGuru auction are the Audemars Piguet Limited Edition Royal Oak Offshore (Arnold Schwarzenegger Legacy Chronograph) and a stunning 18 ct rose gold Bvlgari Serpenti. The former is estimated to sell at a price of Rs 19,85,000 - Rs 24,85,000 and the latter’s sale price is estimated to be within the range of Rs 25,25,000 and Rs 28,25,000.
