Dark Knight Rises: H. Moser and Cie. Unleashes Two New Endeavour Watches in Vantablack

Over the years, the Swiss timepiece industry has undergone quite a few drastic changes. Needless to say, this shows the industry takes pride in its traditions as well as in its painstaking experimentations. One change that has remained constant involves the use of dark/black dials for watches. Such dials do make bold statements. Therefore, following the success of its Streamliner timepiece with a Vantablack® dial last year, H. Moser & Cie. has unveiled two new watches, namely Endeavour Tourbillon Concept Vantablack® (Ref. 1804-0403) and Endeavour Centre Seconds Vantablack® (Ref. 1200-0411) in red gold cases.

Composed through carbon nanotechnology, Vantablack, acronym for Vertically Aligned Nanotube Arrays, is the darkest substance available on our planet; it is capable of absorbing 99.96% light. In other words, when light strikes Vantablack, it is trapped, deflected, and absorbed within a billion nanotubes. This carbon material can also be found in modern luxury SUVs and on H. Moser and Cie. watches with clean dials and no logo. The brand used Vantablack pigment for the first time on the dial of its Endeavour Perpetual Moon Concept in 2018.

Endeavour Tourbillon Concept Vantablack®

The 40 mm red gold watch can be called the pinnacle of minimalism. Positioned at 6 o'clock, the one-minute flying tourbillon seems literally floating at the centre of a ‘black hole', with no reflection. There are no hour markers or logos.

The watch comes with red gold lugs and bezel. On the dial, there are leaf-shaped hour, minute hands and a crown at 3 o’clock. Powering the watch is the self-winding HMC 804 calibre with a three-day power reserve. Turning the watch over showcases the automatic bidirectional oscillating weight, with an engraved H. Moser & Cie. logo, and a tourbillon at 6 o’clock. The watch is finished on a hand-stitched black alligator leather strap with matte treatment; the strap also sports an 18 ct red gold folding clasp, engraved with the Moser logo.

Endeavour Centre Seconds Vantablack®

The 40 mm red gold model comes with red gold lugs, bezel, and hour markers. On the dial, you can spot leaf-shaped hour, minute hands, a central second hand, and a crown at 3 o’clock.

Powering the watch is an HMC 200 automatic calibre with a power reserve of three days. It is equipped with a regulating organ, manufactured by Precision Engineering AG, the sister company of H. Moser & Cie. It houses a large, engraved gold oscillating weight on the caseback. Finishing the watch is a hand-stitched grey kudu leather strap with an 18 ct gold pin buckle, engraved with the Moser logo.
