Urwerk Introduces UR-102 Reloaded in Steel and Titanium
Founded by Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei in 1997, Urwerk made its debut in the horology circuit with UR-101 and UR-102 watches, featuring a wandering hours movement, at Baselworld the same year. Travelling back in time, the brand has just launched UR-102 Reloaded in two new versions – one in steel and titanium and the other in signature Urwerk black. The limited-edition collection comprises 25 pieces.
The Geneva-based timepiece maker has always pushed the boundaries to create some of the most unconventional timepieces ever worn on the wrist. UR-102 Reloaded is no exception. In its new variant, Urwerk has reinstated the celestial quality of the original watch, inspired by the Sputnik satellite, with larger and more solid lugs. The two new models now come in 41 mm cases made of steel and titanium, and titanium with black PVD-treated casebacks. Maintaining the futuristic appeal of the original timepiece, the crown now moves to 4 o’clock, merged with the case.
Now let's talk about how to view time on the sci-fi-inspired model. The complication has only one moving part, just like the 1997 model, and features a semi-circular arc on the dial to display the minutes. That arched minute scale wanders like a satellite from 0 to 30 and then returns to 60 during descent. Whether you opt for the blue dial or the black one, it is guaranteed that viewing time won’t be a challenge as both models now come with much clearer fonts. The other focal point is the hour unit moving along a semi-circular track. The wandering hours are found on the satin-brushed and engraved discs and the hour and minute markers are hand-painted with Super-LumiNova®.
Running the watches is the self-winding automatic Calibre 2.02 movement with a 48-hour power reserve. Both models come with specially shaped sapphire crystal glasses. The titanium- and steel-cased models are finished on rubber straps with textured Baltimore-quilt patterns, sporting micro-blasted titanium pin buckles while the black models get black textured rubber straps and Baltimora fabric, accompanied by micro-blasted black PVD-treated titanium pin buckles.
The UR-102 Reloaded is presented in a boxed set. It can be a perfect choice for watch geeks, who are intrigued by space.
