Chronographs are inextricably linked with sports. To begin with, a chronograph is a wristwatch that includes a stopwatch in addition to the regular timekeeping features. This function helps measure elapsed time with the precision of fractions of a second. Therefore, chronographs are an important tool for a variety of sports or physical pursuits. Luxury watch brands often collaborate with sporting events, with chronographs featuring prominently in such partnerships. The latest brand to unveil a chronograph — Chronomaster Sport Titanium, to be precise — to celebrate a sporting gala is Zenith. The watchmaker is the official timekeeper of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS), which is the brainchild of French tennis coach, sports commentator, and brand friend Patrick Jean André Mouratoglou. The 2024 edition of UTS was held from 9 to 11 February in Telenor Arena, Oslo.

The new Chronomaster Sport Titanium (Ref. 95.3100.3600/39.M3100) from Zenith is undoubtedly the lightest iteration of the Chronomaster model; in fact, it’s 30% lighter than the steel variants. The timepiece houses the brand’s award-winning 1/10th of a second El Primero calibre. Following multiple variants in steel, with ceramic or metal bezels, the sports chronograph has become bolder and more technical, with the introduction of the highly monochromatic Chronomaster Sport Titanium.

The 41 mm case, its surfaces, the fluted crown at 3 o’clock with the distinctive star emblem, and the pump-style pushers at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock are all made of grade 5 titanium. What’s more, they have a sleek satin-brushed finish that highlights the colour grey for a performance-driven look. The bezel too is made of titanium and etched with an accurate 1/10th of a second scale; it also has a unique sunburst satin-brushed ornamentation.

The sunray-brushed galvanic nickel-grey dial exemplifies sophistication. The snailed and recessed subdials for the running seconds and chronograph totalisers feature a characteristic tri-colour design, albeit in different shades of grey. The 60-second counter at 3 o'clock is anthracite in colour, while the 60-minute counter at 6 o'clock has a slight grey tone; the little seconds at 9 o'clock is silver-coloured.

Wide chapter rings with markings improve readability, while the chronograph function hands, notably the central one with its red tips, add a sporty touch. However, black tips are also an option for a more dramatic effect. The rhodium-plated faceted hour and minute hands are coated with Super-LumiNova for maximum visibility in low-light circumstances. The faceted hour markers have the same luminous coating. The date window, located at 4:30, is integrated effortlessly with the dial's aesthetics.

The Zenith Chronomaster Sport Titanium is driven by the El Primero 5Hz calibre 3600, featuring a 60-hour power reserve; it is known for its performance, evolution, and 1/10th of second indication. The grey titanium theme is visible through the sapphire caseback. The calibre 3600 has a star-shaped open-worked rotor as well as prominent characteristics like the blued column wheel, select blued screws, and gold-coloured components, which provide an aesthetic touch to the utilitarian aspects.

The new watch comes with two strap options: a unique FKM rubber strap that is heat- and chemical-resistant and a vertically satin-brushed three-link titanium bracelet with an adjustable clasp. The rubber strap, which has a folding clasp, blends in with the case and perfectly captures the essence of the Chronomaster Sport Titanium. These freshly designed straps will be offered in black, green, and white.
