The New Montblanc 1858 Geosphere Watch Comes with an Iced Blue Glacier Pattern Dial

Worldtimers, also known as world time watches or world timepieces, display the time in multiple time zones simultaneously. These watches, usually designed for frequent travellers, often have a city ring or a list of cities on the face, each representing a different time zone. Wearers can align the city corresponding to their desired time zone with a reference marker, allowing them to read the time in that zone. Among the celebrated worldtimers is the Montblanc 1858 model. Continuing with the dual hemisphere layout, the latest Montblanc 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen South Pole Exploration Limited Edition (Ref. 130961) gets a new dial and is limited to only 1990 pieces. Titanium is known for its strength, lightness, and resistance to corrosion. This material is often used in high-quality and durable watches, especially for constructing cases and bracelets. This material is hypoallergenic, which means it is unlikely to cause skin irritation or allergic reactions. 

 The latest Montblanc 1858 watch draws inspiration from the Minerva watches of the 1920s and 1930s, which were created for military use and exploration. The legacy continues with the new South Pole Exploration model. The 42 mm titanium watch comes with a bidirectional blue anodised aluminium bezel, knurled finishing, and engraved cardinal points, coated with Super-LumiNova® with green emission. In keeping with its tool watch nature, mountaineers can use the bidirectional rotating compass bezel in conjunction with the North, South, East, and West markings with green emissions.

The sfumato iced blue glacier pattern dial comes with two individual domed globes, rotating in opposite directions over a period of 24 hours, representing the Northern Hemisphere at 12 o’clock and the Southern Hemisphere at 6 o’clock. Both globes are surrounded by a scale with 24 time zones and a day/night indicator in contrasting colours. However, if the wearer wants a more immediate view of the time in a second zone, there is a subdial at 9 o’clock that can track this function; a date window at 3 o’clock is flanked by the historic Montblanc logo of the 1930s, with the outline of the eponymous mountain. The outer periphery of the watch comes with a 60-minute track and a blue chapter ring. 

 The dial provides plenty of contrast to the white luminescent rhodium-coated Arabic numerals and markers. The vintage spirit of the watch is consolidated with the rhodium-coated cathedral-style hour and minute hands; both come with luminescent coating and green emissions. The continents and the dual time subdial (at 9 o’clock)  are accurately represented with blue luminescence coating. The Manufacturer has also added explorer Reinold Messner’s route across the South Pole on the Antarctic as a nod to the legendary Mark-Maker’s expedition.

The timepiece is powered by Caliber MB 29.25, offering 42 hours of power reserve. Each of the Seven Summits (including Mont Blanc) is engraved on the caseback that also depicts  Aurora Australis (commonly known as Northern Lights) over Antarctica’s Paradise Bay. The watch is finished on an interchangeable titanium bracelet with a taper or a grey textile strap with a rope pattern and a titanium and stainless steel triple-folding clasp, both with a fine adjustment system.
