The New HYT Hastroid Watch Shimmers with All the Colours of a Rainbow

With more and more watch brands experimenting with bold colour combinations, creating rainbow-coloured watches seems to have become a huge trend in horology. The latest brand to join the multicolour brigade is HYT, which has launched the Hastroid Rainbow (Ref. H03042-A), a 15-piece limited-edition collection. The dial of the new timepiece has been created by Yan Patriarca, a lacquering expert at MD’Art SA.

HYT is known for its creativity. And its futuristic Hastroid collection seems to be getting bolder with colourful designs. The new model takes the experimentation with colours a few notches higher, thanks to the rainbow colours. In a way, the watch can be considered a combination of the Green Nebula, Supernova Blue and Cosmic Hunter variants. The new 48 mm HYT Hastroid Rainbow watch, made from multilayer carbon fibre with matte black DLC-coated titanium, now comes with a redefined, openworked dial and display. 

The dial reveals the mechanical section and the two bellows on its lower part, with the capillary tube around it. The movement’s frames are black-coated with grid patterns, with bold Arabic numerals seen in the central part of the dial for the minute markers. The watch has a central minute hand, a small second hand and a power reserve indicator. 

The whole movement is retrograde fluidic for hours. The left bellow/piston pushes the coloured fluid into the capillary tube and as time passes, the transparent fluid goes into the right bellow. The minute hand is matte black with purple and white SLN coating in Lumicast®. The second hand is also matte black but comes with red and white SLN coating in Lumicast®. Even the matte black power reserve hand gets red SLN coating.

The fluid contained in the borosilicate capillary tube serves to indicate the retrograde hours while a purple-tinted central hand, coated with Lumicast, points to the minutes. The outer periphery of the watch that has hour markers in varied colours has been created using tinted Zapon lacquer. Each colour is sprayed by hand, in several layers and with an imperceptible gradient effect. The crown at 2 o’clock is made from black DLC-coated titanium. Powering the HYT Hastroid Rainbow is the manual winding, automatic Calibre 501-TC with 72 hours of power reserve. This movement is black-coated, finely sandblasted and satin-finished. The HYT Hastroid Rainbow watch is finished on a purple rubber strap with black microfibre embossed decoration and purple stitching, featuring a black-coated titanium pin buckle, which gets satin and sandblasted finishing.
