Take a Deep Dive into the 7 New Variations of the Omega Seamaster and Aqua Terra Collections
Omega has a long history of creating some of the finest timepieces in the world. The brand has evolved much beyond the hallowed Speedmaster. Over the years, the Seamaster and the Constellation collections have made a significant mark on their respective horological genres.
Launched in 1948, the Seamaster was created to withstand any conditions that were thrown at it, from high altitudes to remarkable depths of oceans. Now, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the collection, the brand has revamped seven of its Seamaster and Aqua Terra timepieces and provided them with a gradient blue colour. These include Aqua Terra (38 mm and 41 mm, and Worldtimer), Seamaster 300, Diver 300bm, Planet Ocean, Ploprof, and PO Ultra-Deep.
So, what do the seven watches have in common? All of them now come with sun-brushed, gradient blue dials, each with a layer of varnish. The dials get darker on the edges. For instance, the Ultra-Deep has a blue centre and dark edges while the Aqua Terra 150M 38 mm watch has a blue face with lighter edges. Another common feature is that the hour markers and the hour, minute hands are now filled with a new light blue Super-LumiNova, matching the theme of the collection.
THE AQUA TERRA 150M 38 mm and 41 mm
Ref. 220.10.38.20.03.004 comes in a 38 mm stainless steel case with a blue sunray-brushed dial. There are sailboat-shaped hour markers with a round date window at 6 o’clock. The watch also comes with elongated hour, minute, and second hands. This model is powered by in-house automatic Calibre 8800 with 55 hours of power reserve. It is finished on a stainless steel bracelet.
In this collection, there is a 41 mm variant as well, which comes in a larger stainless steel case with a teak pattern on the dial. You can spot blue trapezoidal hour markers and a blue date window at 6 o’clock. On the outer periphery of the dial, there is a blue chapter ring with a 60-minute track. The model is powered by Calibre 8900, with two barrels and 60 hours of power reserve. Finishing this watch is a stainless steel bracelet or a blue rubber strap.
THE AQUA TERRA WORLDTIMER
The third model is almost similar to the green variant of the Aqua Terra Worldtimer, which was released early this year. It is housed in a 43 mm stainless steel case, which now comes with a blue dial and light blue hour markers, and hour, minute, and second hands. The earth at the centre of the dial gets 24-hour reading, with light blue to indicate daytime and dark blue to indicate night. Powering the watch is Calibre 8938 with 60 hours of power reserve. Finishing the watch is a blue rubber strap or a stainless steel bracelet.
SEAMASTER 300 & DIVER 300
This diver’s special Seamaster 300 time-only watch gets a 41 mm stainless steel case with a blue ceramic 60-minute bezel, a sunray-brushed dial that is darker on the edges, Arabic numerals, and triangular hour markers. The lower plate of the dial as well as the classic broad-arrow hands are light blue in colour, sporting lollipop seconds. The drive force is the automatic Co-Axial Master Chronometer calibre 8912, with two barrels and 60 hours of power reserve. The watch is finished on a stainless steel bracelet and offers water resistance of 300 metres.
The legendary Bond wristwatch, Diver 300, gets a 42 mm stainless steel case, featuring the classic lyre-shaped lugs, a scalloped unidirectional bezel and a helium escape valve at 10 o’clock. The dial maintains the wave pattern and now boasts sunray, a blue date window at 6 o’clock, rhodium-plated skeleton hour, minute, and second hands, and hour markers filled with summer blue Super-LumiNova. Powering the watch is Calibre 8800 with 55 hours of power reserve. The watch is finished on a stainless steel bracelet or a blue rubber strap. This model gets 300-metre water resistance.
SEAMASTER PLANET OCEAN
Diving deeper into oceans is the 39.5 mm Planet Ocean timepiece. This model comes in a stainless steel case and offers 600-metre water resistance. It is equipped with a helium valve at 10 o’clock and lyre-shaped lugs. The unidirectional 60-minute bezel is crafted from dark blue ceramic. The blue dial gets vertical brushing, a blue date window at 3 o’clock, and blue Arabic and trapezoidal hour markers. Running the watch is Omega 8800 with a power reserve of 55 hours. The watch is finished on a stainless steel bracelet.
SEAMASTER PLOPROF
This is one of the most important timepieces in the collection as this pure diver’s watch has 1200-metre water resistance. The monobloc case includes the famous screwed-in crown at 9 o’clock and the characteristic security pusher at 2 o’clock. The watch is made of O-MEGASTEEL. The bezel ring is a sapphire crystal that mirrors the chemically reinforced monolithic crystal used in those early versions. The brushed dial is even darker, compared with the watches mentioned above, with a no-date display and a larger minute hand. Inside this 2023 Ploprof is the calibre Co-Axial Master Chronometer 8912 with 60 hours of power reserve. Finishing the watch is a blue rubber strap.
SEAMASTER ULTRA-DEEP
Now this watch is a veritable icon, witnessing a record dive into the Mariana Trench. This model comes in a 45.5 mm O-MEGASTEEL case with a unidirectional bezel in blue ceramic, sporting a light summer blue diving scale. The dial gets a blue centre and a full black outer periphery. You can find Arabic and trapezoidal hour markers. Powering the watch is Calibre 8912, delivering 60 hours of power reserve. The watch is finished on a stainless steel bracelet.
What’s more, the dial has a shining UV light that reveals the words, “OMEGA WAS HERE”, showing the Western, Central, and Eastern pools.
