TAG Heuer Unveils New Chronographs Honouring Porsche Carrera 911

It’s not every day that one comes across a car and a watch that can be called the greatest of all times. 

Porsche 911 has long been regarded as one of the greatest sports cars ever made. Nicknamed the ‘Ducktail’, the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1972. This was the world’s first production vehicle with a rear spoiler. Commemorating the launch of the sports car 50 years ago, TAG Heuer has unveiled two limited edition chronographs: the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 Red Edition, limited to 250 pieces, and the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 Blue Edition, limited to 500 pieces.

The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7, reminiscent of the 1970s, was unveiled in 27 colours while the name honoured its successful stint at the Carrera Panamericana race. Similar to the sports cars that sported blue and red colours with large ‘Carrera’ decals, TAG Heuer has painted ‘Carrera’ on the sides of the new watches. 

The 42-mm watches have two-tone finishes and are based on the Carrera Chronograph, which has a tricompax layout: a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock, a 12-hour counter at 9 o'clock, a small seconds indicator at 6 o'clock and a date window with a white background and black numerals. Powering both watches is the in-house Calibre Heuer 02 automatic movement with an 80-hour power reserve.

The stainless steel cased model (Ref. CBN2016.EB0275) has a stainless steel bezel, blue lacquered chronograph hands, rhodium-plated hour and minute hands with white Super-LumiNova® and a blue polished central hand on a blue-white dial with bar-shaped stainless steel hour markers and a Roman numeral 12 o’clock. 

There are two stainless steel pushers at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock to start and restart the chronograph function respectively, with a stainless steel crown at 3 o’clock. Turning the watch reveals the transparent caseback that gets the engraving, ‘TAG Heuer x Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Limited Edition’, with a stainless steel oscillating weight that replicates the steering wheel of the legendary sports car with the engravings ‘TAG Heuer’ and ‘Porsche’ and the engraving of the individual watch number out of 500. The watch has either a stainless steel bracelet or a fabric strap with ‘Carrera’ embossed in blue.

The next limited edition variant is a rose gold one (Ref. CBN2045.FC8316) with red and white tone counters and red lacquered hands for its 3 o'clock and 9 o’clock counters while the 6 o’clock second indicator gets a rose gold hand. On an 18 ct rose gold polished case, the watch features rose gold hour and minute hands with white Super-LumiNova® and a red polished central hand at 6 o'clock. 

What’s more, the watch also gets rose gold chronograph pushers with an 18 ct rose gold crown at 3 o'clock and "Carrera" engraving on the left side of the brushed and polished gold case. Turning the watch reveals the sapphire crystal screw-down caseback in solid pink gold with the engraving of the individual watch number out of 250. There is only one strap option, a red alligator strap with a rose gold pin buckle.

Water resistance is 100 metres for both the stainless steel and rose gold versions. The TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 Blue Edition has been priced at Rs. 6,56,850 while the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 Red Edition costs Rs. 19,14,000.
