TAG Heuer Releases 3 New Monaco Chronographs to Celebrate One of the Grandest F1 Races

To celebrate the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix, TAG Heuer has launched three new variants of the iconic Monaco chronograph with skeleton dials. These follow the Monaco timepiece in a combination of black and gold and another variant in purple. Introduced in 1969, the legendary model has seen multiple variants over the years. The new models with blue sandblasted dials (Ref. CBL2182.FT6235), black sandblasted dials (Ref. CBL2183.FT6236), and black sandblasted dials with turquoise lacquered counters (Ref. CBL2184.FT6236) retain the signature square-shaped case of the original watch. 

The Monaco Grand Prix, being held since 1929, is often considered one of the most glamorous and luxurious F1 races in the world. It is one of the three races — Indianapolis 500 and 24 Hours of Le Mans being the other two — that form the Triple Crown of Motorsport. When it comes to F1, we can’t help but think of motorsport heroes, such as Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna, Lewis Hamilton, Niki Lauda and James Hunt. Every year, countless F1 fans flock to Monaco to hear the roaring sound of those turbocharged V6 engines. The annual motor racing event is held at Circuit de Monaco, which was built in 1215, when the Principality of Monaco became a colony of Genoa. Each of its corners has a designated name - Casino Square, Tabac, La Rascasse and so on.

Coming back to the latest TAG Heuer Monaco collection, these 39 mm watches have been crafted from grade 2 titanium, including its bezel, crown and two chronograph pushers at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock. Each new TAG Heuer Monaco chronograph features a 12-hour counter and a 30-minute one at 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock respectively, along with a seconds hand and a date counter at 6 o’clock. The date displayed is not on a subdial but on a semicircle counter with its own separate hand, complete with a blue Super-LumiNova® coating. While Ref. CBL2182.FT6235 gets a blue chapter ring, blue hour markers and blue chronograph counters with red hands, Ref. CBL2183.FT6236 has a black chapter ring, black chronograph counters with red hands and black hour markers. Ref. CBL2184.FT6236 gets a black and turquoise combination dial with hour markers, chronograph counters and a black chapter ring.

The blue dial gets rhodium-plated, faceted hour and minute hands with blue Super-LumiNova® while the black-dial model comes with black gold-plated faceted hour and minute hands with blue Super-LumiNova®. The black-turquoise model gets black gold-plated faceted hour and minute hands with light blue Super-LumiNova®. All three models come with red lacquered central hands. Powering the watch is the Calibre Heuer 02 that offers a power reserve of 80 hours. On turning over each new TAG Heuer Monaco watch, we will see an exhibition caseback that reveals the movement and the column wheel that matches the colour of the dial. This colour contrast can also be found on the outer periphery of the black DLC-coated oscillating weight. 

The watches are finished on either embossed blue calfskin and rubber straps or on embossed black calfskin and rubber straps with sandblasted titanium grade 2 folding clasps featuring double safety push buttons. Only the black-turquoise model gets black DLC coating on the strap.
