TAG Heuer, Mario Kart Launch Limited Edition Chronographs
Mario Kart fans, be ready to race against time. Once again, on your wrist. TAG Heuer has just unveiled two new Formula 1 limited edition pieces: TAG Heuer Formula 1 X Mario Kart Limited Edition (Chronograph) (Ref. CAZ201E.FC6517) and TAG Heuer Formula 1 X Mario Kart Limited Edition (Chronograph Tourbillon) (Ref. CAZ5080.FC6517). After launching the Connected smartwatch, this is for the second time that the two giants have collaborated.
TAG Heuer Formula 1 X Mario Kart Limited Edition (Chronograph)
Frst watch in the line-up is the TAG Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart Limited Edition (Chronograph) (Ref. AZ201E.FC6517), comprising 3,000 pieces. The 44-mm stainless steel watch gets the ‘Mario Kart’ logo inscribed on the black, polished 240 km/hour tachymeter bezel with Super-LumiNova®. The pusher at 2 o’clock, which starts the chronograph function, has a red lacquer ‘M’ logo on the crown, symbolising the game, while the 4 o’clock pusher that restarts the chronograph is made of plain stainless steel. The black, anthracite and chequered flag dial takes inspiration from the racetrack. The watch has a black-grained, 30-minute chronograph counter with rhodium-plated, polished hand at 12 o’clock, a black-grained, 12-hour chronograph counter with a red lacquered hand at 6 o’clock and a black-grained, 60-second indicator with a rhodium-plated and polished hand at 9 o’clock with a Mario logo.
The chronograph has trapezoidal, rhodium-plated hour markers with white Super-LumiNova®. Rhodium plating can also be found on the polished hour and minute hands with white Super-LumiNova® and a red lacquered, central seconds hand with white Super-LumiNova®. At 3 o’clock, the watch gets a date display, alongside which are the embossed TAG Heuer logo, Formula 1, and Calibre 16. Turning the watch reveals a black, screwed-down caseback with an engraving of ‘Limited Edition’, four visible screws and a Mario Kart logo.
These limited edition chronographs is powered by Calibre 16 automatic movement with 48 hours of power reserve and water resistance of 200 metres. The watch sits on a black, calf-leather strap with contrasting red lining and a fine-brushed folding clasp in stainless steel with double-safety push buttons.
TAG Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart Limited Edition (Chronograph Tourbillon)
The second timepiece in the collection is a more technical TAG Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart Limited Edition (Chronograph Tourbillon) (Ref. CAZ5080.FC6517), limited to only 250 pieces. The highlight of the slightly larger 45-mm watch is the tourbillon movement at 6 o’clock, which has been reworked specifically for the watch. The watch is powered by Calibre Heuer 02T COSC movement with 80 hours of power reserve.
On the black, opaline dial, the watch gets red outlines on several of its elements, lending it a distinctive, futuristic look. The watch gets an anthracite-grained, 30-minute chronograph counter with black hands at 3 o’clock and a black-and-red, 12-hour subdial at 9 o’clock with white Super-LumiNova®. The black tourbillon at 6 o’clock has a reworked cage with Mario, Spiny Shell and Bullet Bill, all moving with synchrony. The watch also gets black-faceted hour and minute hands, and a red lacquered, central hand, all with white Super-LumiNova®. The white TAG Heuer logo sits at 12 o’clock.
Made of Grade 5 titanium, the watch has brushed and polished accents and boasts of stainless steel pushers and a crown at 3 o’clock. The limited edition timepiece has a 400 km/hour tachymeter black ceramic bezel with a Mario Kart engraving in white Super-LumiNova®.
Turning the watch shows the screw-down caseback in Grade 5 titanium, with a custom sapphire glass featuring the Mario Kart logo on the oscillating weight. It also sports Mario in a race car with the engravings of ‘Limited Edition’, ‘Cal. Heuer 02T’ and XXX/250.
The watch is water-resistant for up to 100 metres and comes on a textured, black calfskin strap with custom embossed pattern, red-lining, fine-brushed titanium Grade 5 folding clasp, with double-safety push buttons.
