TAG Heuer and Al Majed Jewellery Launch the Carrera Qatar Limited Edition Timepiece

Watches dedicated to countries or inspired by them often celebrate the nations’ heritage, landmarks, achievements or cultural elements. These timepieces can range from luxury models, produced by renowned watchmakers, to more accessible pieces, created by boutique brands. They may feature unique design elements, such as national colours, symbols and motifs, which pay homage to particular countries. 

Several luxury watch brands have created limited-edition or special-series watches to honour Qatar. Add to this list the TAG Heuer Carrera Qatar Limited Edition (Ref. WBN2017.BA0640), which pays tribute to the country’s rich culture, and symbolic colours and codes. Limited to 150 pieces, this watch, unveiled at the 20th Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition 2024 recently, will be available in the Qatar market.

Located on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, Qatar has become an increasingly popular destination for tourists from all over the world. Its capital, Doha, is known for its futuristic skyscrapers and ultramodern architecture, inspired by ancient Islamic designs. The Al Majed Group was established by pearl trader Ali Al Majed in 1943. In the 1940s, he established the Al Majed Jewellery in Qatar. It expanded to include jewellery from the best designers in Europe and soon became a centre of attraction for all jewellery seekers in Qatar.

The new 41 mm stainless steel watch gets a crown at 3 o’clock in the same material. The “Al Adam” sunray purple red dial, inspired by the Qatari national flag colour, is the star attraction. The dial gets rhodium silver Arabic numeral hour markers, coated with SuperLumiNova®; “Qatar” in Arabic is printed above 6 o’clock. The rhodium-plated hour and minute hands are coated with Super-LumiNova® and a white lacquered central second hand can be spotted as well. At 12 o’clock rests a rhodium-plated TAG Heuer applied logo. 

At 3 o’clock, a dual window marks the date of the week and date in Arabic with a white background. This white marking can also be found on the minute track on the outer periphery. The TAG Heuer Carrera 41 mm watch is powered by the brand’s Calibre 5 automatic movement, delivering a power reserve of 38 hours. The automatic movement is visible through the sapphire caseback. Each watch is inscribed with the words, “QATAR”, “LIMITED EDITION”, and “ONE OF 150”, on the caseback, sporting a stainless steel oscillating weight. Finishing the watch is a steel bracelet with ergonomic H-shaped links.
