Sure-Fire Hits: The Trailblazing Tissot PRX Line Boasts Striking Automatic and Quartz Variants

Tissot’s PRX line, along with its variations over the years, has been an incredible success story. Carrying the narrative forward, the luxury watchmaker added a brand new chapter to the PRX tale last year. The uber-stylish collection now boasts a raft of striking models: quartz and automatic variants, and a high-end automatic chronograph. Needless to say, this Tissot lineup, launched last April, offers a masterful blend of vintage design cues, harking back to the 70s, and modern watchmaking technology. In keeping with its legacy, the range is characterised by its slenderness, robustness of its design, and timeless style. What’s more, some pieces in the trailblazing collection come dressed up in atypical colours: ice blue on the automatic versions, and silver and blue dials for the automatic chronograph. 

The novelties have been well-received by both true-blue watch enthusiasts and casual wearers all over the world; these are being commended for stylish designs, robust build, and relatively moderate price points. No doubt, these watches are a testament to Tissot's commitment to offering quality timepieces that reflect both the brand's heritage and contemporary trends.

Automatic Collection

The automatic collection has three dial colour options: ice blue (Ref. T137_207_11_351_00), blue (Ref. T137_407_17_041_00), and black (Ref. T137_407_17_051_00). Each of the stainless steel models sports a steel crown at 3 o’clock, along with steel hour, minute, and second hands. The dials on all models retain the waffle-like pattern, the luminous hour markers and hands, and the framed date window at 3 o’clock of the original 70s’ models. Not to mention the slight tonneau cases and the slim, polished bezels.

These 40 mm PRX variants are run by Powermatic 80, Swatch Group’s formidable workhorse movement. Thanks to a reduced frequency and string mainspring, it can hold an impressive 80 hours of power reserve. The Nivachron balance spring ensures better resistance against effects of magnetism. The movement can be seen through the sapphire crystal caseback; a stainless steel oscillating weight can be spotted as well. The watches are finished either on steel bracelets, each with a single link and a triple-blade folding steel clasp. The bracelets can be changed through an interchangeable system, either with leather or rubber straps. 

Quartz Collection

The quartz collection offers three dial options too: fully white (Ref. T137_410_17_011_00), sunburst blue (Ref. T137_410_17_041_00), and sunburst black (Ref. T137_410_17_051_00). Each of these models gets a steel crown at 3 o’clock, steel hour, minute, and second hands, and a framed date window at 3 o’clock. 

This collection is powered by a Swiss-made quartz movement and is completed on interchangeable rubber straps. Turning each watch over showcases a stainless steel closed caseback. The 40 mm stainless steel watches (both automatic and quartz movements) get polished steel bezels. Only the white variant comes with a full coating of Super-LumiNova®. All models have 100-metre water resistance.

The high-functioning PRX Automatic Chronograph was also added to the line last year. This 42 mm satin-finished steel watch with a panda dial follows PRX’s sleek, angular form. The PRX Automatic Chronograph is powered by the Valjoux A05.H31 calibre, providing an extended 60-hour power reserve. The new models in the lineup can perfectly complement various kinds of sartorial choices. No matter the time, place, style or use, there's indeed a PRX for every occasion. Last year, Tissot celebrated the 20th anniversary of Le Locle and showcased two models in Roman numerals and diamond hour markers. The 39mm models had an 80 hour power reserve from Powermatic 80 movement, while the 29mm model had a 48 hour power reserve from a Powermatic 48 movement.
