Seiko Introduces ‘Made of Glory’ Watches, Celebrating India’s Cultural Legacy

India has a rich cultural, historical, and artistic legacy that has significantly contributed to the global tapestry of human civilization. The country is also incredibly diverse linguistically, with 22 officially recognised languages and hundreds of dialects; each region has its own distinct language and cultural practices. From ancient cave paintings and sculptures to intricate Mughal architecture and modern art, the country’s artistic heritage is vast and varied. It is also home to numerous historical monuments and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Taj Mahal, Qutub Minar, and Ajanta and Ellora Caves.

The country celebrates its Republic Day on January 26 every year; it marks the day when the Constitution of India came into effect in 1950, replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India. Paying tribute to India's cultural diversity and honouring its Republic Day, Japanese watchmaker Seiko has just introduced the “Made of Glory, the first-ever Seiko 5 Sports Limited Edition, made for India”. Launched with two dial options, the collection comprises Indigo Blue (Ref. SRPK81K1) and Ivory White (Ref. SRPK83K1) models, each limited to 1200 pieces. 

Each of the new 42.5 mm stainless steel watches features a unidirectional knurled bezel with strokes of the Indian tricolour – saffron, white, and green – and a triangle at 12 o’clock. Both models have a ratcheted crown with protectors at 4 o’clock. Each dial gets a day-date window, positioned at 3 o’clock with a white background. It reflects the dualities of light and darkness: the Ivory White model gets a blue minute track on the outer periphery of the white dial while the Indigo Blue model gets a white minute track on its blue dial. Wearers will also find the white dial model with blue-white-toned hour markers, hour, minute, and second hands. The blue dial model, on the other hand, gets beige-white-toned hour markers, hour, minute, and second hands.

Both models are powered by an automatic with manual winding Calibre 4R36 movement, delivering a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. Through the caseback one can see the calibre. The movement has a stop seconds hand function, which means the seconds hand stops at the 15-second position/45-second position (power save function). Through the transparent caseback, one can also spot the stainless steel oscillating weight and the engraving of “Limited Edition”. Both models are completed on stainless steel bracelets and complimentary blue silicone straps.
