Roger Dubuis Launches the Excalibur Monobalancier Titanium Timepiece

Breaking stereotypes, reinventing the craft of watchmaking and boldly experimenting with design — that’s Roger Dubuis for you. Taking the brand’s artistic prowess to a whole new level, the luxury watchmaker has now introduced the Excalibur Monobalancier (MB) Titanium (Ref.RDDBEX0956).

Roger Dubuis has always worked to improve on perfection and challenged itself at every level — the latest watch attests to this. Essentially, the Excalibur collection is admired for its bold aesthetics and novel mechanisms. The timepieces get their own DNA while incorporating new layouts and elements, elevating luxury watchmaking to a completely new dimension. 

 The new Excalibur Monobalancier watch has been released in Grade 5 titanium, featuring a case with a sapphire crystal, a 24 toothed-bezel,a crown and an open caseback. The model is 33% lighter than a regular steel piece and can be worn as an everyday watch. The material makes the watch stronger as well. After all, Grade 5 titanium has a high strength-to-weight ratio, making it one of the strongest materials for watches.

The dial gets the signature five-pointed star and offset hour and minute hands. There is a gold-toned balance wheel at 8:30. A purple synthetic sapphire has been used for the bearings with a microrotor that is visible from the dial side rather than from the caseback. It is designed to minimise vibrations; the inertia of its balance wheel maximises stability while reducing its sensitivity to shocks.

The dial of the monochromatic Roger Dubuis watch also gets a grey double-surface flange with transferred texts and a minute track; polished and grey hour markers with SLN are located at the centre. The triple-surface hands in white gold have satin-brushed finishing on the tilted surfaces and one can find shot-blasted finish on the flat grey surface with SLN tips.

The watch is powered by an automatic, self-winding, Monobalancier Calibre RD720SQ movement with an increased power reserve of 72 hours. The movement has a new geartrain toothing and escapement optimization through its geometry. This movement also gets shot-blasted finishing and trued-up main plate and bridges. Hallmarked with the Poinçon de Genève, each element of the timepiece is hand-finished. Turning the watch over showcases the sapphire skeleton caseback.

Bringing the power of lightness on the wrist is a titanium bracelet with satin-brushed links and polished angles, complete with an interchangeable Quick Release System, sporting a titanium triple-folding buckle.
