Rado and Marina Hoermanseder Create Second Edition Heartbeat

Located in the central-east part of Berlin, Kreuzberg is known for its street art, murals and global cuisine. Last year, Rado collaborated with  French-Austrian designer Marina Hoermanseder to create a new variant of its Captain Cook timepiece dedicated to women. This model was a 37 mm watch that had the Hoermanseder elements — the trademark buckle and leather strap in exuberant pink and a matching cylindrical watch case adorned with the Marina Hoermanseder logo. This year, as part of its second collaboration, the Lengnau-based timepiece maker has unveiled the Rado Captain Cook x Marina Hoermanseder Heartbeat, dedicated to the district of Kreuzberg.

Born in 1986, Marina Hoermanseder founded her own label in 2013 and in January 2014, she presented her first collection at the Berlin Fashion Week. In 2012, she worked at Alexander McQueen and created outfits for some of the most fashionable names in the industry — Kylie Jenner, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, to name a few. Her designs involve progressive cuts with fetish elements, experimenting with sharp contrasts and playing with the beauty of the unconventional.

The Rado Captain Cook x Marina Hoermanseder Heartbeat is a tribute to Berlin's Kreuzberg district where Hoermanseder currently resides. The watch sports a 37 mm steel yellow gold PVD case with a white ceramic dial and bezel insert. The dial features a rainbow of eight precious stones (blue sapphire, light blue aquamarine, green tsavorite, yellow sapphire, orange sapphire, red spinel, pink sapphire, violet sapphire), along with the trapezoidal hour markers and a yellow gold-coloured central seconds hand with  Marina Hoermanseder's signature, which also doubles up as a Heartbeat logo.

The hour markers and the hour and minute hand feature white Super-LumiNova®, the signature yellow gold-coloured moving anchor symbol with a silver coloured backplate sits at 12 o'clock. The watch has a white background, black numeral date window at 3 o’clock while the bezel has laser-engraved, gold-coloured metallised markers and numerals, set against a white ceramic background. The timepiece has a golden crown with the Rado logo engraving.

Turning the watch reveals the transparent caseback with Marina Hoermanseder engraving and a stainless steel oscillating weight. Powering the watch is the Rado R763 automatic movement with 80 hours of power reserve. 

The straps of the watch also get the Hoermanseder finishings. The first is the rice-grain, yellow-gold, PVD-coated steel bracelet with an option of a black double-length leather with embossed alligator motif NATO strap and there is another black standard-length leather strap with the same embossed alligator-motif surface. The watch is water resistant for up to 100 metres. 

This watch is certainly meant for power women with a keen eye for detail.
