Parmigiani Fleurier’s Watches and Wonders Novelties Spotlight the Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante, a Calendar Trilogy and More

The Swiss luxury watchmaker’s Watches and Wonders novelties include new platinum and gold models, the Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante that makes its world premiere, and a stunning trilogy.

TONDA PF Minute Rattrapante, a 2023 World Premiere

The world premiere of Parmigiani Fleurier’s TONDA PF Minute Rattrapante follows on from the success of the TONDA PF GMT

Rattrapante whose launch in 2022 caused quite the sensation.

The creation of the 40mm stainless steel TONDA PF Minute Rattrapante was guided by the idea of innovating and reinterpreting one of the most common watchmaking functions. The watch does just that by getting rid of the graduated bezel. The dial has an hour hand and two minute hands: the rhodium-plated gold one shows real-time along with the hour hand while the other 18 ct rose gold minute hand counts down the minutes in either five- or one-minute increments. The grey dial showcases a Grain d’Orge hand-guilloché finish.

The pusher at 8 o'clock moves the rose gold minute hand by 5 minutes, and the pusher at 10 o’clock moves it by one minute. Automatic manufacture PF052 movement runs the watch and offers about 48 hours of power reserve. The stainless steel bracelet comes polished with a satin finishing.

Cultural Calendar Trilogy Sets

The new line-up includes a trilogy of timepieces that display three calendars: Gregorian, Islamic and Chinese. The watches will be sold as a set, as a limited edition of three boxes. The 42mm watches feature a platinum dial. The hour and minute hands are rhodium-plated, skeletonised, delta-shaped and crafted from 18 ct gold. The second hand is made of steel and comes rhodium-plated as well. At 6 o’clock lies the moonphase indicator in blue aventurine.

The calibers powering the watches are as follows: PF339 for the Gregorian Calendar (50-hour power reserve), PF008 for the Xiali Calendar (54-hour power reserve), and PF009 for the Hijri Perpetual Calendar (48-hour power reserve). Turning the watches showcase the skeleton caseback with a platinum oscillating weight.

TONDA PF Micro-Rotor

The 40mm platinum watch has all the right elements of its 2021 sibling. While the previous versions made use of 18 ct rose gold, and a steel and platinum bezel, this new model has an all platinum layout that gives it a monochromatic look. With a knurled bezel, this model features a date window at 6 o’clock.

Powering the watch is the Automatic PF703 movement with a 48 hours of power reserve. Turning the watch showcases the platinum micro-rotor in platinum. The watch is finished on a polished and satin-finished platinum bracelet with an 18 ct white gold folding clasp.

TONDA PF Flying Tourbillon

After releasing the TONDA PF Tourbillon as a 25-piece limited edition timepiece last year, Parmigiani Fleurier has, at this year’s Watches and Wonders, unveiled a non-limited-edition model with a Milano blue sandblasted platinum dial. This 42mm, platinum model has a flying tourbillon at 7 o’clock.

Powering the watch is the in-house PF517 self-winding movement that offers a 48-hour power reserve. Turning the watch showcases the platinum oscillating weight and is finished on a polished and satin-finished platinum bracelet with an 18 ct white gold folding clasp.

TONDA PF Minute Rattrapante

Split-second chronographs are designed to measure intermediate (split) times and come equipped with two superimposed chronograph hands. Activating the 1 o’clock pusher makes the two hands turn together. Pressing the 4 o’clock pusher stops the upper hand while the lower hand continues running. Another press at 4 o'clock brings the upper hand back to the second one in a move that has led to the French term rattrapante (“catch-up”) for this function. The split time is measured at the first stop. This highly sophisticated function is one of the most difficult complications to create, on a par with a tourbillon or a minute repeater.

Celebrating two decades of the Maison, the model is crafted in 18 ct rose gold, and is available in a limited edition of 30. PF361 runs the watch: a manual winding movement with a 65-hour power reserve beating at 5Hz. The 18 ct rose gold bracelet is polished and satin-finished with an 18 ct white rose folding clasp.
