Panerai’s Navy SEALs-inspired Novelties Honour its Storied Maritime and Military Legacy
Panerai’s history shares a special, inextricable connection with the Italian military, and the brand reinforces this military DNA with a new Navy SEALs-inspired capsule collection. Each of the watches in this unique lineup embodies challenge, bravery, team spirit, and adrenaline — ideals shared by the legendary Navy SEALs, known for their exceptional feats in the vast seas. Typical to all Panerai timepieces, these four new Submersible models exemplify the brand’s commitment to constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible.
This 2024 collection draws inspiration for both its aesthetic and functional codes from desert camouflage. The design details that are common to all four novelties include the Navy SEALs decal visible on the dial at 6 o’clock, and a small seconds counter created to resemble a target, a nod to the SEALs’ accuracy and focus in all operations. The casebacks have Navy SEALs’-inspired details, too, such as engravings of the official logo of the Navy SEALs. On the dial, the indexes are coated with sand-coloured Super-LumiNova® — a colour choice that aligns with the overall desert camouflage theme — that enhances legibility in low light conditions while amplifying the rugged aesthetics of the watches.

This robust 44mm model’s military design codes stand out at first glance. Cased in stainless steel, it features a unidirectional rotating bezel that seamlessly complements the gradient effect on the dial that transitions from black to anthracite. The beige Super-LumiNova® offers just the right amount of contrast. With a no-date design, the timepiece has a clean, symmetrical aesthetic appeal that aids greater legibility while staying true to Panerai’s timeless spirit.
The watch is powered by the ultra-reliable P.900 movement, renowned for 3-day power reserve. Measuring 28mm in diameter with a thickness of just 4.2 mm, the movement is among the slimmest ever automatic calibres by Panerai. The energy required to facilitate the impressive power reserve is made possible by the use of bidirectional oscillating weight, with the energy stored in a single barrel. The balance wheel — oscillating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour — is fixed in position by a balance cock. The stop-second function bolsters the precise time setting. Turning the watch over reveals a screwed brushed stainless-steel caseback. The water resistance offered is up to 300 metres.

The 44mm Carbotech™ case, fashioned from a composite material developed by Panerai, ensures that this timepiece retains a distinct lightness. Based on carbon fibre, Carbotech™ is only 64% lighter than titanium, 80% lighter than steel and surpasses both materials in strength and durability. The creation process of the material involves compressing carbon fibre sheets at specific temperatures and pressures along with PEEK (Polyether Ether Ketone), a superior polymer that has a superior binding effect, thus ensuring the strength and longevity of the composite material. The resultant strength-to-weight ratio makes the watch highly comfortable on the wrist without compromising on resistance to tough wearing conditions.
Every singular watch bears a slightly different appearance owing to the uneven, matte black surface due to the cutting of the material. The unidirectional rotating bezel is also crafted from Carbotech™. The gradient pattern on the dial shifts from black to anthracite with the beige-hued Super-LumiNova® guaranteeing readability in all conditions. The watch’s screwed back is made from Titanium DLC (diamond-like carbon coating), and it's water-resistant up to an impressive 500 metres. In addition to boasting a 3-day automatic reserve, the P.900/GMT calibre aids a GMT function that displays a second time zone, particularly useful for tracking both home time and local time simultaneously, with the GMT hand glowing in green Super-LumiNova® in the dark.

The 47mm case, constructed from brushed titanium, makes a formidable first impression, an ideal choice for a fearless adventurer. Specifically crafted from Grade 5 titanium, the watch has a strength-to-weight ratio that makes it 40% lighter and 60% harder than steel. The expansive case size draws cues from the very first case produced by the brand and inspired by the movements that powered the historical models. The titanium case is complemented by the unidirectional rotating Carbotech™ bezel and the black-to-anthracite graded dial with beige Super-LumiNova®.
The automatic P.9010 calibre runs the watch, powering the central hour and minute hands, a small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock and a date display at 3 o’clock. With a three-day power reserve housed in two spring barrels, the movement ensures a robust performance. The calibre facilitates a quick change of time feature too, allowing the hour hand to be adjusted independently in hourly increments without affecting the minute hand, ideally suited to travellers moving across time zones. For improved accuracy, the calibre also includes a device that stops the balance wheel and the seconds hand when the winding crown is pulled out. The watch is water-resistant up to 300 metres.

Limited edition of 80 pieces
A perfect combination of lightness and strength, this 47mm model is cased in Titanium DLC with a unidirectional rotating bezel crafted from the same material that is 40% lighter and 60% harder than steel. Powered by the P.9100/R calibre, an automatic movement with a 3-day power reserve and a flyback chronograph function, the watch also has a countdown feature that tracks time before a specific event or moment. By virtue of a vertical clutch and column wheel, the chronograph minutes are showcased by a central hand that jumps forward once every 60 seconds. This feature, in turn, enables the chronograph hands, which are already running, to return instantaneously to zero and be restarted in just one operation.
Pressing the push-button at 4 o’clock activates the countdown, allowing the minute hand to retreat one minute with each click until the desired time is set. A press on the “START” push-piece at 10 o’clock activates the chronograph hands. Additionally, the timepiece also includes hours, minutes, small seconds, calculation of immersion time, stop seconds, and seconds reset. Featuring a gradient from black to anthracite on the dial accented with beige SuperLumiNova®, like the other models, the watch is equipped to handle legibility in a variety of challenging situations. The screwed Titanium DLC case back boosts the watch’s water resistance to 500 metres.
The Submersible Navy SEALs collection comes with two straps. The first features a bimaterial combination of rubber and Camo pattern textile, and the second strap is crafted from black accordion rubber that adds an understated yet sporty look to the watch. On the PAM01518, PAM01669 and PAM01521, the interchangeable strap system allows for quick personalisation for different occasions.
All four models will be available exclusively at Panerai boutiques. The PAM01518, PAM01513 and PAM01669 are out now while the limited-edition PAM01521 will be in stores from October 2024.
