Over the Moon with Panerai Moonphase Models

Panerai has been one of the go-to brands for those seeking sturdy yet elegant timepieces. Originally a time-only model, a complication has been added to its Luminor Due Luna collection for the first time. Each of the four versions – PAM01179, PAM01180, PAM01181 and PAM01301 – displays hours, minutes, seconds and moon phases while paying homage to Panerai's maritime tradition with a touch of cosmic flair.

The Italian term for the moon, "Luna", marks the spot just above 6 o'clock on the dial. A rotating disc – the 24K gold moon, beautifully carved with dimples to mimic the moon's craters – stands at 3 o'clock against a night sky background, completed with a finely-grained texture and scattered, etched stars. At 9 o'clock, there is a small seconds display. The watch features Calibre P900/MP, measuring only 5.9 mm in thickness, and is an automatic movement with a three-day power reserve. The watch is water-resistant for up to 30 m.

Luminor Due Luna PAM01179

This model has a gleaming stainless steel case and bezel. The crown protection bridge adds a touch of ruggedness, making it stand out. The sapphire crystal is made of corondum and is scratch-resistant and covered with an anti-reflective coating on the front, while the solid steel back makes for a sturdy foundation. The sun-brushed blue sandwich dial features gold hands and Arabic numerals, illuminated with Super-LuminovaTM for easy reading in any lighting condition. There is an alligator strap in a lustrous dark blue shade with tone-on-tone stitching, making it ideal for any dapper dresser.

Luminor Due Luna Madreperla (PAM01181)

This variant's case and bezel are composed of Panerai GoldtechTM (made from an alloy that includes platinum and a high amount of copper for a deep, red tone). Additionally, it has a clear sapphire crystal caseback. Golden Applied numerals and white Super-LumiNovaTM-filled indexes accentuate the white mother-of-pearl dial. It boasts of tone-on-tone stitching, a polished dark blue alligator strap, and a polished Goldtech buckle. 

Luminor Due Luna (PAM01180)

The case, polished bezel, and caseback are all made of steel. The white, sun-brushed surface of the dial shines brightly, and the vivid beige Arabic numerals and hour markers contribute to the radiance, thanks to the distinctive Panerai sandwich construction. For a splash of colour, this comes with a sparkling pink alligator strap and a dark pink buckle.

Luminor Due Luna (PAM01301)

The white, sun-brushed dial of this model has the recognisable Panerai sandwich construction and beige Super-LuminovaTM in the numerals, indexes and hands. It has a Luminor Due steel bracelet with links that mimic the shape of the Panerai crown-protection mechanism. The bracelet has alternate polished and brushed finishes. It is also polished along the curving links' outer edges and the OP logo is engraved.

The fast-release system on Luminor Due Luna references (PAM01179, PAM01180, PAM01181) allows for strap changes without using tools. Pressure on the rear of the strap releases it from the casing, and it can be replaced with equal ease.
