Oris Launches the Dat Watt Limited Edition II Watch, Inspired by Salt Marshes

Oris has just unveiled the Dat Watt Limited Edition II, a timepiece marking the brand’s renewed partnership with the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat (CWSS), an organisation dedicated to preserving the Wadden Sea in northern Europe. This watch can be described as an embodiment of Oris's unwavering dedication to ensuring positive ecological impact.

Change for the Better

The impact of Oris's Change for the Better motto is evident in the second Oris Sustainability Report. This comprehensive document outlines the brand’s own efforts to reduce global carbon emissions. Furthermore, Oris has extended its collaboration with CWSS for two more years, till 2025. Forged in 2021 with the introduction of the Dat Watt Limited Edition watch, this alliance now continues with the unveiling of the second limited-edition timepiece.

The Common Wadden Sea Secretariat is a trilateral organisation, dedicated to preserving the Wadden Sea, a vast 11,500 km² expanse in northern Europe, stretching for 500 km along the coasts of Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands. As the world's largest unbroken tidal flats system, it nurtures approximately 10,000 species of flora and fauna, thriving mostly undisturbed. Its significance is underscored by the UNESCO World Heritage Site recognition in 2009.

Despite this protection, the Wadden Sea, referred to as Dat Watt locally, contends with various kinds of threats, including overfishing, pollution, shipping, tourism, and the challenges of climate change. Engaging the next batch of conservationists poses an additional challenge. Through an extended partnership, Oris and CWSS intend to target youth-centric programmes, inspiring young individuals to recognise their immense capacity to drive positive change.

The Dat Watt Limited Edition II 

The watch has its roots in the Aquis, a timeless diver's watch, created by Oris. It boasts a captivating green dial that mirrors the hues of the salt marshes, integral to the Wadden Sea's diverse ecosystem. These marshes are a sanctuary for 2,300 flora and fauna species, also serving as natural CO2 reservoirs.

This diver’s watch is tailored to real-world performance. Encased in a 43.5 mm multi-piece stainless steel case, the Oris Dat Watt Limited Edition II watch guarantees water resistance of up to 300 metres. This timepiece incorporates various features to enhance secure underwater timekeeping.

Internally, the watch houses a Swiss Made automatic mechanical movement, Oris 743. This movement not only incorporates a small seconds indicator at 9 o'clock – with half of it illuminated for visible operation confirmation – but also an innovative circular date function. The latter is indicated by a rotating white dash within a 360-degree channel, spanning over a 31-day cycle. This timepiece delivers a power reserve of 38 hours.

A unidirectional rotating bezel facilitates accurate dive timing, with the minutes scale displayed on a grey tungsten bezel insert. The screw-down security crown is thoughtfully designed for added protection while the luminescent hands and indexes ensure clear underwater legibility. The watch includes both a blue rubber strap and a three-link stainless steel metal bracelet. Each option features a safety clasp with an extension system to accommodate wetsuit wear.

Notably, the Oris Dat Watt Limited Edition II watch will be restricted to 2,009 pieces, symbolising the year of UNESCO's recognition of the Wadden Sea as a World Heritage Site.
