New Hermès Cape Cod Chaîne d’ancre Timepieces Reinterpret a Timeless Classic

The Cape Cod watch collection, created by Hermès, has been synonymous with elegance and bold design. The first version of this watch dates back to 1991, derived straight from Hermès artistic director Henri d’Origny’s pencil sketches. The original version was supposed to be a square watch, but it ended up as a ‘square in a rectangle shape’. With clean lines and an eye-catching shape, the original case sported two ‘anchor chains’, an iconic motif created by former Hermès chairman and artistic director Robert Dumas in 1938. The anchor chains were reinterpreted in later versions. The 2023 versions of the iconic Cape Cod Chaîne d’ancre watch transition smoothly into a whole new style wherein the statement links are intertwined on a striated dial, coated with glycine or blue lacquer.

The new Cape Cod watches take a more playful approach. In fact, the brand offers two new exquisitely feminine models — gem-set and non-set that interpret the double chain on a graphic dial in shades of glycine or blue. The dials feature stamped horizontal lines with the intertwined links standing out, coated in tinted lacquer and swept over by fine baton-type hands. These are paired with alligator or calfskin straps, accentuating the soft, dusty shades of the contemporary and elegant creations, crafted at the Hermès Horloger workshops. 

To be precise, the steel set model with 46 diamonds, stamped and coated with blue-tinted translucent lacquer, comes with a matching storm blue alligator strap while the non-set model, stamped and coated with Glycine translucent lacquer, is paired with a Glycine Athena calfskin strap.

Both the new Cape Cod Chaîne d’ancre models come with hours and minutes function and are powered by a quartz movement. They have a 23 x 23 mm case size and anti-glare sapphire crystals. The watches offer 30 metres of water resistance.
