MB&F Releases the New M.A.D.1 Green Edition, Sets in Motion the Raffle System
Right from its inception in 2005, Maximilian Büsser & Friends (MB&F) has built its reputation as the creator of some of the most innovative, audacious, and non-conventional timepieces in the world of horology. The M.A.D. (Mechanical Art Devices) collection enjoys its own persona in this ecosystem. In 2021, the luxury timepiece maker unveiled the M.A.D.1 Blue edition, which was later followed by M.A.D.1 Red. Now, the manufacturer has launched the M.A.D.1 Green edition as the third model in the series.
The fundamental principle of the M.A.D.1 collection is to honour over 100 “friends”, including those who create dials, hands, cases, escapements, movement components, and sapphire crystals, photographers, writers, and designers. The next group comprises collectors or people who own these MB&F timepieces. To be noted here, M.A.D.1 has never been a part of MB&F Machines, it’s a separate category altogether.
The new M.A.D.1 Green watch is housed in a 42 mm stainless steel case. It is both aesthetically and technically identical to the M.A.D.1 Red model. The new watch gets the signature mineral crystal top with a steel bezel and a sapphire crystal. There is also new green finishing on the upside-down Miyota movement, featuring the minute cylinder and the ring on the top. The watch has the same lateral time display and two rotating cylinders. All numerals and the stripes on the rotor get Super-LumiNova.
The new Green model also comes with a titanium and tungsten rotor on the dial side of the watch and a crown at 12 o’clock. The revolving hours and minutes are positioned on aluminium cylinders, visible on the case band. Powering the watch is the Miyota 821A movement with a unidirectional winding system — essential for easy and high-speed rotation of the winding rotor, offering 60 hours of power reserve. The wearer views time with a pointer between the bottom lugs. Here the hours are viewed on the green cylinder on the top and the minutes can be seen on the bottom black cylinder, allowing the rotor to spin at a very high speed, thereby contributing to the spectacle in low-light conditions.
MB&F will release 1,500 pieces of the M.A.D.1 Green model through the usual M.A.D. Editions’ raffle system, whereby watch lovers can sign up for tickets on the M.A.D. Gallery e-shop. The raffle is now open for registrations and will remain operational for two weeks. After filtering and cleaning the list, the tickets will go into a draw (as always, supervised by a bailiff), with lucky winners being chosen at random. Results will be announced in early October and deliveries are scheduled between October 2023 and April 2024.
