Louis Moinet Reveals the New Jules Verne Tourbillon Watch with a Lunar Meteorite

Luxury watchmaker Louis Moinet has always been successful in creating some of the most fascinating timepieces that become the toast of the town in no time. The latest Jules Verne Tourbillon (Ref. LM-135.50.V5) is one such offering. The watch is the first creation in the trilogy, nicknamed ‘TO THE MOON’, featuring a lunar meteorite. Born in Nantes, France, in 1828, Jules Verne has often been referred to as the ‘father of science fiction’. Famous for his voyage novels, his book titles, Around the World in Eighty Days, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, The Mysterious Island, and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, are loved by all. The author has had a great influence on pop culture.

The new Jules Verne Tourbillon from Louis Moinet comes in a bold 40 mm 18 ct rose gold case. At the centre of the dial, there is a space that allows the wearer to select a unique stone disc, carve from either a lunar meteorite, an opal or a lapis lazuli. The ace timepiece maker will offer only eight discs in each material, handcrafted and revealing a unique pattern.

The central disc will feature a peripheral guilloché, which involves producing enchanting motifs by engraving gentle grooves on a metallic surface. The guillocheur then applies a translucid varnish to the surface to add depth to the decoration. The new Jules Verne Tourbillon timepiece is connected to outer space because of its dial, featuring the lunar meteorite. Eight individual fragments of this very rare material, originating from the moon, are unique options, making the watch one-of-a-kind.According to the brand website, two have already been sold.

The dial features guilloché under translucid green varnish, with the lunar meteorite at the centre, while 18 ct rose gold can be found on the polished bezel, the crown at 3 o’clock, the hour makers, the hour and minute hands, and the flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock. On the outer periphery of the watch lies a minute track with 60-minute in red; the Louis Moinet logo shines bright as well. The 18 ct rose gold openworked lugs get integrated into the strap. Powering the watch is a hand-wound with double barrel movement, delivering 96 hours of power reserve. The watch is finished on a black strap.
