HYT Reveals the New HASTROID Silver Red Watch with an Electrifying Finish

Watchmaking is, of course, not a new phenomenon, if we consider pocket watches; it has seen three centuries of development. And modern watchmakers are taking a leap into the future with their bold experimentations. Take HYT. Ever since it was revived in 2022, the brand has been experimenting with new colour combinations for its signature timepieces. While its narrative still revolves around the concept of telling time with liquids, use of bright colours is, thus, a trait embedded in the brand’s DNA. The HASTROID range, HYT’s core model, has now found a new colour combination: silver and red. In other words, the brand has introduced a 15-piece limited-edition HYT HASTROID Silver Red (Ref. H03061-A) watch, which supersedes the Blue Star.

Modern titanium watches are among the strongest ever made. A lot of them are treated to superior technology in order to make them highly scratch-resistant. Essentially, titanium is stronger than stainless steel and also lighter. As a bonus, it is rust-proof. The metal can resist all acids, with the exception of nitric acid (an acid, which is rarely used in our daily life). The corrosion resistance of titanium and platinum is, in fact, comparable.

The new 48 mm HYT HASTROID Silver Red watch has been crafted from titanium and carbon. Its case, made of titanium and black DLC titanium, features a distinctive finish that lends it a satin and sand-blasted effect. The dial has been redesigned to improve legibility, featuring a large central hand with a vivid red coating and sharpened contours for an instantaneous fix on the minutes. The two sub-counters, arranged like instruments in a cockpit, provide essential complementary information. The watch has a small seconds at 9 o’clock, a power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock, and a crown at 2 o’clock in black coated titanium.

The particular luminescence of the red liquid achieved here ensures that the hours pop and are equally easy to read, by day and by night. For contrast and clarity, a capillary dial, topped with white Super-LumiNova®, is positioned under the fluidic light. The Arabic hour markers around the chapter ring are made from blocks of Super-LumiNova®. The HYT HASTROID Silver Red watch also features a central titanium container to protect the movement. 

The openworked dial’s mainplate subtly reveals the components of the hand-wound mechanical movement. Designed by master watchmaker Eric Coudray for the HASTROID collection, the calibre’s distinctive aesthetic is further augmented due to the finishes with satin brushing and bead-blasting that give a subtle edge to these treatments. The new watch works in the same way as the HASTROID Blue edition. 

The liquid is pushed along the barrier between the two tracks and once it reaches 6 pm, it is pushed back to the starting point to begin the 12-hour journey once more. The large central hand is used to indicate the minutes. The watch relies on a mechanical-fluidic module and has two bellows pumping the liquid through the capillary. The hours are indicated by the two non-miscible liquids inside the capillary. As the liquid is pushed along, the barrier between the two keeps track of the progress of every hour. There’s also a 60-minute track below the hour markers with an inverted triangle for 60 minutes. The minute hands, the black second hands, and the matte black power reserve hand, all get coated with red and white Super-LumiNova.

Powering the watch is the manual winding 501-CM movement with a 72-hour power reserve. The movement is finely sand-blasted and satin-finished with black coating. Finishing the watch is a black rubber strap with a black microfibre embossed decoration and red stitching, accompanied by a black coated titanium pin buckle with satin and sand-blasted finishing.
