F1-Themed Tudor Black Bay Ceramic Blue is Now Available to Watch Lovers
Tudor revealed a surprising alliance a few months ago, just ahead of the 2024 Formula One season, confirming its comeback to motorsport. At that time, the company officially announced its association with Red Bull's second squad ― the Visa Cash App RB Formula One team, driven by Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda. Well, more surprises in store as the brand has just made the Tudor Black Bay Ceramic Blue (Ref. 79210CNU) available to watch lovers. In other words, what was previously imagined as a "team watch" is now accessible to all.
Time-only watches have a distinct place in the world of horology. These watches frequently have a minimalist appearance, with a clean and uncomplicated display. This minimalism might be interpreted as a symbol of refinement and sophistication. The Black Bay Ceramic Blue reference is a minimalist piece in every sense of the term.
The Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) certifies timepieces as Master Chronometers if they meet the highest standards of precision, performance, and magnetic resistance. To earn the Master Chronometer designation, a watch must go through and pass a set of rigorous examinations that go beyond the usual COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres) certification. In fact, it is a combination of two pedigrees, one by COSC and another by METAS. Because of these stringent requirements, not many watches achieve the Master Chronometer certification.
Armed with this certification, the new Black Bay Ceramic Blue watch has a 41 mm black ceramic case; a PVD steel unidirectional bezel with a 60-minute graduated disc in black ceramic, boasting sunray satin finish; and a combination of satin-finished surfaces and polished accents. At 3 o’clock rest the screw-down winding crown in black-PVD-treated stainless steel, with the TUDOR rose in relief, and the circular satin-brushed steel winding crown tube.
The dial in a not-so-subtle colour is new or was when the team drivers were spotted wearing the watch. It's blue and perfectly complements the Visa Cash App RB livery. The domed dial features dotted, rectangular, and triangular hour markers, and “Snowflake” hands filled with Grade X1 Swiss Super-LumiNova® luminous material. There is no other complication.
Calibre MT5602-1U, a self-winding mechanical movement with a bidirectional rotor system built with Kenissi, is visible inside the case and has a guaranteed power reserve of 70 hours. This automatic movement keeps the architecture of most Black Bay watches, while adding the highly rigorous Master Chronometer certification (not only for the movement but for the entire watch). The certification and anti-magnetic qualities of up to 15,000 gauss ensure precision. As Tudor puts it, all its Master Chronometer timepieces are accurate to within -2/+4 seconds every day. The open caseback in black PVD-treated stainless steel has sapphire crystal. The rotor is openworked and made of tungsten monobloc. It also has the trademark laser radial grooving and sandblasted accents. Its bridges and mainplate have alternate sand-blasted and polished surfaces, with laser embellishments. The watch is finished on a hybrid leather and rubber strap, with exclusive stitching and a folding clasp in black PVD-treated stainless steel. One also gets a complimentary black fabric strap with a blue band and a black PVD-treated stainless steel buckle.
