Ethos Watches Partners Up with Avant-Garde HAUTLENCE

Since its conception in 2004, Swiss luxury brand HAUTLENCE has remained committed to celebrating innovation and pushing the boundaries of watchmaking. With a name that itself is an anagram of Neuchâtel — the birthplace of watchmaking — HAUTLENCE has built a reputation centred on avant-garde architectural aesthetics and one-of-a-kind mechanical complexity.

Indian fans need not seek out the brand’s uniquely-made timepieces on faraway shores anymore, thanks to the just-announced partnership between Ethos Watches and HAUTLENCE. For now, the stunning collections available for Indian connoisseurs to marvel at include Linear Series 2, Vagabonde X Black Badger, and Sphere Series 1, all available at Chanakya Mall in New Delhi and on the official website of Ethos Watches.

Linear Series 2

(Ref. AD50-ST01)

Limited edition of 28 pieces

Sized at 43.0 x 50.8 x 11.9 mm, this proudly embodies the brand’s boundary-pushing DNA. The deep black of the graduated scale aligns with the intense black of the ultra-durable steel case that is entirely covered with PVD, offering just the right contrast for the linkage, the tourbillon bridge, and the minute hand in blue. The signature TV screen shape stands out, as does the dial, which is constructed on several levels. An additional sapphire dial that displays the minute numerals is placed on top of the base dial and sports a vertical satin finish. The graduated scale indicates the hours with the aid of a large yet slim linkage that brings to mind the one used in the first movement developed by the brand in 2004: Calibre HL. The small white pointer indicates the hour on the vertical scale. Once the numeral 12 is passed, the snail disengages the probe to release the accumulated energy. In addition to the linear retrograde jumping hour, Linear Series 2 also showcases a flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock.

Calibre D50, the self-winding movement that drives Linear Series 2, has been entirely developed, designed, and produced in-house. It comprises 239 components, and offers a power reserve of 72 hours.

Vagabonde X Black Badger

(Ref. AB30-ST01)

Limited edition of 28 pieces

Born out of a collaboration with designer James Thompson a.k.a. Black Badger, who specialises in innovative materials that he uses in his own distinctive way, this stunner focuses on the interplay of volumes and contrast, the tension between black and bright colours, and the interaction between positive and negative space. The cutting-edge aesthetics, evocative of 1980s arcade games, serves as the perfect visual symbol for such a unique collaboration. Also sized at 43.0 x 50.8 x 11.9 mm, it’s the perfect canvas for Thompson to add his personal touch by drawing on his expertise of working with luminescent material. The ‘Master of Glow’, as Thompson is often referred to because of his work with Badgerite® (a 3D luminescent composite), created the material in HAUTLENCE’s signature shade of orange. The minute indices are also in Badgerite® and the hour markers are enhanced with Super-LumiNova®.

The B30 bidirectional self-winding movement powers the timepiece, guaranteeing a power reserve of three days. The calibre is based on a manufacture movement designed in collaboration with H. Moser & Cie.

Sphere Series 1

(Ref. BA80-ST00)

Limited edition of 28 pieces

Highly multi-faceted with a distinct fluidity, this is almost like a neo-futuristic sculpture. The left portion of the TV-shaped steel case (sized at 43.0 x 50.8 x 15.6 mm) is prominently occupied by the blue sphere, staged by a bevelled sapphire crystal fitted with a small dome. Featuring 12 engraved numerals, the timepiece turns on itself on three axes of rotation to reveal the time. The sphere spins every hour using four conical gears, positioned around two crossed axes inclined at 21 degrees. These gears are housed within two polished titanium shells with a blue PVD treatment that form the sphere. To the right of the sphere is a retrograde minute hand that moves along an elegant minute track. The applied minute numerals, white by day and blue by night, are made of Globolight®, a ceramic-based material charged with Super-LumiNova®.

Entirely developed, designed, and produced in house, the hand-wound A80 calibre powers the Sphere Series 1 model. Made up of 218 components, the ingenious movement offers a power reserve of 72 hours.
