Corum Reveals the New Concept Watch, Crafted from Recycled Titanium

The word, ‘concept’, refers to a product which, though not a prototype, showcases what the brand’s aspirations really are. Such products feature new designs and advanced technologies that are meant solely for the future. Originally, this ‘concept’ was restricted mainly to automobiles, but now modern timepiece makers too have started applying it to their watches. Take Corum, which, at the recently concluded Geneva Watch Days, unveiled its Concept Watch (Ref. Z374/04426 - 374.100.04/0231 AV10G), made of sustainable materials.

Sustainability has become the need of the hour for all businesses. Luxury watchmakers too have realised its importance and have begun incorporating sustainable materials into their flagship timepieces. Most timepiece makers have started to move away from traditional leather; instead they are using vegan leather. Other new materials that are being increasingly preferred include titanium and ceramic. 

The 39.5 mm Corum Concept Watch, including its crown at 3 o’clock, is crafted from recycled titanium. The openworked dial gets an aventurine stone backplate with a one-minute flying tourbillon, mainspring, and gear train while the engraving vividly explains the main functionalities of the watch's components. There are arrow-shaped, skeleton, rhodium-coated hour and minute hands, along with sapphire crystal bridges and plates. 

The watch is powered by CO 374, a manual winding calibre with 90 hours of power reserve. Turning the watch over showcases the screwed-in open back cover, also in recycled titanium. It allows the wearer to appreciate the inner workings of the timepiece. Together with the construction over different levels, it also adds a compelling three-dimensional feel. 

The watch is finished on a blue, recycled, textile, velcro® strap with an oval ring loop buckle in stainless steel. The incorporation of a recycled titanium construction emphasises the brand’s commitment to going the sustainable route without compromising on comfort. The Corum Concept Watch dimensions are perfectly versatile, very modern, chic, and envisioned by the brand as genderless.
