Chopard Showcases Stunning Timepieces at Watches And Wonders 2024

As Watches and Wonders Geneva 2024 kicks off, excitement mounts with the newest releases from various luxury watch brands. Among them is Chopard. So, join GMT India as we examine in detail the breathtaking new timepieces from the brand.

L.U.C XPS Forest Green

The new L.U.C XPS Forest Green, which is the latest addition to the L.U.C collection, combines Lucent Steel™ – Chopard’s exclusive alloy with advanced properties and at least 80% recycled content – with technical watchmaking via the in-house L.U.C Calibre 96.12-L.

Its satin-brushed dark green dial, achieved through PVD treatment, exudes depth and refinement. Adopting a sector-type dial design, the piece merges the aesthetics of Art Deco and Bauhaus movements, featuring concentric circles and radial lines for hours and minutes markers. Popularised in the 1930s and resurging in recent years, this design choice, coupled with the Forest Green dial and off-white markers, lends the watch its distinctive charm.

The L.U.C 96.12-L, an ultra-thin calibre measuring just 3.30 mm in thickness, features a bidirectional 22 ct gold micro-rotor and twin stacked barrels (Chopard Twin Technology), offering a generous 65-hour power reserve. The bridges, finished with a Côtes de Genève motif and bevelling, are visible through the caseback. The ‘S’ in the XPS acronym refers to the small seconds at 6 o’clock, mandated by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute. This display evaluates the precision of movements certified, ensuring that the average daily rate of the watch is between −4 and +6 seconds.

Strap and buckle details for the watch include a hand-sewn brown calfskin leather strap with ecru stitching and a pin buckle crafted from Lucent Steel™.

Alpine Eagle XL Chrono 

The Alpine Eagle collection, inspired by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele's original St. Moritz timepiece, blends tradition with modernity, spanning three generations of the Scheufele family. With its sleek design, round case, engraved crown, indexed bezel screws, and textured dial, the piece simply radiates elegance. The newest addition, the Alpine Eagle XL Chrono, features a 44 mm grade 5 titanium case, marrying sportiness with lightweight construction. Resistant to corrosion and saltwater, this durable material suits extreme sports enthusiasts, whether scaling mountain peaks or diving into ocean depths.

The new model makes its debut with a "Rhône Blue" dial, inspired by Alpine landscapes like Aletsch Blue and Bernina Grey. Reflecting the Rhône River's journey from Valais, Switzerland, the dial features a sunburst pattern resembling an eagle's iris. Legibility is ensured with Grade XI Super-LumiNova® on hands and hour markers. A discreet red tachymeter scale on the inner bezel helps in average speed measurements.

The Chopard 03.05-C movement, central to Alpine Eagle XL Chrono models, boasts a 60-hour power reserve. It ensures precise adjustments and optimal chronograph use. Enhanced with a column wheel and three Chopard patents, it features a unidirectional gear drive for swift winding and energy efficiency. Its vertical clutch guarantees precise time starts, while the flyback chronograph enables smooth timing operations with three hammers. It also includes a stop-seconds function for accurate adjustments. The Alpine Eagle XL Chrono model now offers a rubber strap, complementing its metal bracelet and leather options for increased versatility.

Happy Sport

Since its launch in 1993 by Caroline Scheufele, Happy Sport has epitomised the fusion of steel and diamonds, celebrating women's free spirit. It continues to evolve with each season, presenting a playful celebration of joy and empowerment. Introducing a new chapter, coloured stones like pink tourmalines and aquamarines join the collection, adorning the dial against a silver-toned background with intricate guilloché work at the centre.

Available in limited editions of 250 pieces each, the pink and blue versions of the Happy Sport watch in Lucent Steel™ showcase a 33 mm case, meticulously designed by the Manufacture according to the principles of the golden ratio. They operate with the precision of the Chopard 09.01-C self-winding movement, boasting a 42-hour power reserve. These timepieces are water-resistant for up to 30 metres.

The faceted crown and bezel are adorned with either tourmaline or aquamarine stones, adding a touch of sophistication. The watch features a glare-proof sapphire crystal and a screw-down exhibition back bearing the Happy Sport logo. The dial is embellished with anthracite transfers and five dancing gems, including diamonds, tourmalines, and aquamarines. Roman numerals and hour markers are presented in pink or blue, achieved through CVD treatment. Time is indicated by cone-shaped hands in corresponding colours for hours, minutes, and seconds.

IMPERIALE

Crafted in ethical 18 ct white gold with diamond-set details, the new addition to the IMPERIALE collection boasts a 36 mm case. Showcasing the Maison's craftsmanship, this creation remains true to the customary design elements of the collection, including dagger-type hands, a lotus-flower crown, and lugs reminiscent of ancient columns. However, it's the dial that steals the show with a marquetry piece set against a deep blue-green enamel backdrop. It is bordered by a raised fillet of white gold, intricately adorned with graceful arabesques filled with white enamel. Enhancing this enchanting composition are padparadscha sapphires and delicate pink mother-of-pearl flowers, adding to its overall allure.

Housed in it is the Chopard 96.17-C movement, visible through the transparent caseback. It boasts Chopard Twin technology with a double barrel, offering a generous 65-hour power reserve. With just 3.3 mm thickness, this movement perfectly complements the dainty IMPERIALE watch. Completing the ensemble is the IMPERIALE alligator leather strap.

L’Heure du Diamant

Crafted in ethical 18 ct white gold, Chopard has also put forth L'Heure du Diamant, a collection that seamlessly blends contemporary design with the timeless allure of precious stones. The absolute purity of the diamonds is highlighted by an emblematic gem-setting technique called crown setting, which exalts the beauty of each stone by allowing the light to blaze through. This ribbon, composed of more than two carats of brilliant-cut diamonds encircling the case, lights up a dainty mother-of-pearl dial, set with 12 brilliant-cut diamonds.

At its heart beats a mechanical manual-winding movement driving hours and minutes indications, with a 45-hour power reserve. Measuring 15.70 mm in diameter and only 2.90 mm in thickness, this brand-new in-house movement is one of the daintiest and slimmest to date. It was entirely developed and produced within the Maison’s workshops in Fleurier, Switzerland.

Each detail, from the rhodium-plated leaf-shaped hands to the bezel set with brilliant-cut diamonds, reflects Chopard's unwavering commitment to excellence. This L'Heure du Diamant timepiece is paired with a satin bracelet, comfortably embracing the shape of the wrist.
