Alpina Makes a Grand Debut at Watches and Wonders 2023 with New Extreme Automatic Collections

Founded in 1883, Alpina is, currently, celebrating its 140th watchmaking anniversary. Known for its signature red triangular motif, the brand made its debut at this year’s Watches and Wonders in Geneva and released the new Alpiner Extreme models. The latest collections include Extreme Automatic and Extreme Regulator Automatic timepieces.

Here’s what GMT India thinks makes the Alpina Automatic collections stand out. 

Extreme Automatic

Launched with two dial options of grey (Ref. AL-525G4AE6B) and blue (Ref. AL-525TB4AE6B), each of the new 41 mm stainless steel models gets a four-sided, cushioned case with a round bezel and six visible screws. Each dial gets the famed triangle pattern with white hour markers, complete with white luminous treatment.

The date window at 3 o’clock gets a black background and hand-polished, silver-coloured hour, minute hands, both provided with the white luminous treatment. There is a polished, silver-coloured second hand with the red triangle. The grey dial model gets a grey outer ring while the blue dial model sports a blue outer ring.

The screw-down crown comes with a crown guard and features a dial-matching rubber insert. Powering both models is the in-house Caliber AL-525 movement with 38 hours of power reserve. Turning each watch over reveals the skeleton caseback with a stainless steel oscillating weight and six visible screws. Both models are finished on integrated stainless bracelets with folding buckles.

Extreme Regulator Automatic

The new models have two options — a navy blue dial (Ref.AL-650NDG4AE6B) and a black dial with a black rubber strap (Ref. AL-650B4AE6). Each is limited to 888 pieces. The 41 mm stainless steel collection has a distinctive layout of three counters: the hours at 10 o’clock, the seconds at 6 o’clock and a large central hand for the minutes. 

The trio of hours, minutes and seconds are read from left to right and from top to bottom. The collection also comes with a triangular pattern on each dial; there is a grey outer ring for the blue dial while the black dial variant gets a black outer ring. The round bezel gets six visible screws.

The silver-coloured, trapezoidal markers, the three counters and the hands have been given white luminous coating. Positioned at 3 o’clock, the crown gets the signature crown guard and is fitted with a dial-coloured, knurled rubber grip for perfect handling. Powering the collection is the in-house automatic Caliber AL-650 movement with a 38-hour power reserve. Turning each watch over reveals the skeleton caseback with a stainless steel oscillating weight.

The blue-dialled model is finished on an integrated stainless steel bracelet with a folding buckle, sporting push buttons.

Needless to say, the latest Alpina Automatic collections are all about understated elegance.
